I took these photos this morning before leaving for work. The top part of my yard would be an ideal place for a small vegetable garden but I would definitely have to fence it in since my urban wildlife neighbors are so comfortable just chilling back there.

Wouldn't you enjoy being the cranky old guy shooing away the deer from eating his tomatoes? I would.
apparently marigolds help keep deer from tomato plants. I don't have deer in my backyard but some critter ate all the marigolds the day after I planted them. There's no winning.
